Cooperation agreement signed between BLRT Grupp and South Korean company Panasia

Concern BLRT Grupp has signed a cooperation agreement with South Korean company Panasia, a leader and the world's largest manufacturer of ballast water treatment systems. These systems allow ship owners significantly reduce the impact on the environment.

BLRT Grupp ship repair yards successfully carry out modernization projects - installation of equipment for exhaust gas purification (scrubbers) on vessels, as well as installation of ballast water treatment systems on ships. Panasia`s technology solution GloEn-PatrolTM is applied in the projects. This combined cleaning system, taking the advantages of filtration and UV irradiation, is one of the most environmentally friendly technology in terms of treatment of ballast water on any type of vessels.

"Cooperation with Panasia lasts for more than five years. Cooperation agreement is a major step in the implementation of our plans to expand the business relationship between the companies," – said Igor Kond, a member of the board of BLRT Grupp and Chairman of the Council of Directors of BLRT Repair Yards.

As part of the concluded agreement, Panasia will place its test equipment on the territory of BLRT Grupp in Tallinn, which will allow to demonstrate the possibilities of technological solutions GloEn-PatrolTM to the customers and to train the staff how to use equipment when it is installed on ships. The test equipment will arrive to Tallinn from Hamburg, where it was demonstrated at the world's largest marine exhibition SMM16 Hamburg.

According to the evaluation of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the annual worldwide turnover of ballast water is about 12 billion tons. Ballast water may pose a threat to nature and people, as the living aquatic organisms are able to adapt to new conditions in ports and adjacent waters. According to the International Convention on the Control of ballast water, adopted in February 2004, ships constructed in 2009 and later must be equipped with the appropriate cleaning systems. In the 2017-2018 the ballast water disposal technology must be used on all vessels and be periodically checked for compliance with the standards.
