BLRT Grupp´s Turku Repair Yard enables passenger ship M/V Silja Serenade conversion

In autumn 2013, North Baltic Sea passenger ship company Tallink agreed with Turku Repair Yard and other Finnish Marine Industry companies about conversion of M/V Silja Serenade.

The role of BLRT Grupp’s Turku Repair Yard in this project is to enable the conversion with facility and project management services as well as performing ship level changes for example with struc-tures. Additionally Turku Repair Yard is in charge of cabin modifications and extensive mainte-nance works.

To secure the success are ship owners, yards and turnkey suppliers project organizations in con-tinuous co-operation. Shared project management started last autumn and will continue throughout the project. “Co-operation in value network is central part of our current way-of-working. Without yard it’s challenging for turn-key suppliers to get a project in Finland and without turnkey suppliers we can’t create this kind of capital project service in Finland,” commented Vesa Marttinen, Manag-ing Director of Turku Repair Yard.

Turku Repair Yard and its sister yards in Tallinn and in Klaipeda put even more efforts to the crea-tion of customer value. “Price needs to be competitive in the market, while all actors need to create value to their shareholders. Thus with passenger ships we have a business model where one third of the project is on shipyards responsibility, two thirds on turnkey suppliers responsibility while entire project is in common guidance” said Mr. Marttinen.
